Earth
It all begins in the earth , and the art of pre-Hispanic American pottery is a testament to this. With more than 2,000 years of history in Chile, pottery goes beyond utilitarian uses to include ritual and symbolic functions. The colors vary, from ochre to black, from turquoise to red, reflecting the characteristics of the lands of each region. The patterns – zoomorphic, vegetal or geometric – evolve according to techniques, beliefs and eras. Discover this collection of objects that combine utility and beauty.
Care :
Clay objects for culinary use
To prolong their lifespan, it is advisable to harden clay objects before their first use in order to close their pores.
- Oil curing : Apply edible oil all over with a paper towel, then bake at high temperature for 5 minutes. Let cool before washing and using.
- Milk curing : Boil milk diluted with a spoonful of butter in the object. Tilt it so that the liquid comes into contact with the entire internal surface. Then wash and dry normally.
Additional tips :
- Separate items for savory or sweet uses, as clay absorbs flavors.
- After cooking, place them on a wooden board to avoid thermal shocks which could crack them.
Stoneware ceramic objects
Stoneware pieces, such as those from Guanguli, do not support direct fire. They can be used in the oven or microwave without any problem.
- Remove them from the oven and place them on a wooden board to avoid sudden temperature changes.
