Rock
Stone craftsmanship in Chile relies on varied and often unique materials, sourced directly from the country’s mountains and valleys. Artisans work with stones such as basalt, granite, marble or volcanic rock, each with distinct characteristics in terms of texture, color and density. Using an ancient mastery of cutting and carving, they shape these rocks with meticulous precision, revealing the natural striations, veins and patterns that make each piece beautiful.
Each work carved in stone thus becomes a reflection of the geographical landscape of Chile, a testimony to the geological forces that have shaped these lands and a tribute to traditional craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation.
Care:
- Refine with rice: Rub a handful of rice against the object until a fine white powder forms. This helps clean the surface and work the dust into the small porosities of the rock.
- Oil Curing: Apply cooking oil to the stone using a paper towel and let it absorb the oil for a few minutes.
